An offline hotel PMS that never blocks the front desk

Most PMS platforms are cloud-only: no internet means no check-ins. ViharaOS runs a native desktop client that keeps operating locally and syncs automatically the moment your connection returns.

An internet outage should not stop your front desk

Browser-based, cloud-only PMS software depends entirely on a live connection. In towns with unreliable broadband or mobile data, that single dependency turns routine outages into operational emergencies.

A guest is standing at the desk and the check-in screen will not load.

Card payments cannot be reconciled with the folio because the browser tab lost its session.

Staff fall back to a paper register "just for today" — and that data never makes it into the system.

Power cuts and monsoon-season connectivity drops happen on a schedule cloud PMS vendors do not plan for.

How ViharaOS helps

How the offline-first architecture works

ViharaOS Desktop is a native app (Tauri + a local SQLite database) — not a browser tab pointed at a server. Your data lives on the machine first.

Local-first reads and writes

Reservations, check-ins, folio charges and room status are written to a local database instantly, whether or not you are online.

Automatic background sync

When a connection is available, changes sync to the cloud backend in the background — no manual "upload" step, no blocking dialog.

Conflict-aware sync

If the same property is edited from two devices while offline, ViharaOS reconciles changes when both come back online, flagging genuine conflicts (e.g. the same room double-booked) for staff to resolve rather than silently overwriting.

Small footprint, fast boot

The desktop client is built to install quickly and start in seconds on modest front-desk hardware, not just high-spec machines.

How it works

What happens during an outage

1

Connection drops

The desktop app detects the loss and switches to local mode automatically — no action needed from staff.

2

Operations continue

Check-ins, check-outs, folio postings and housekeeping updates are all recorded locally in real time.

3

Connection returns

The app reconnects in the background and begins syncing the queued changes to the cloud.

4

Sync completes

Other devices and the web dashboard reflect the synced state; any real conflicts are surfaced for review.

Fit

Who needs an offline-first PMS

Pilgrim and hill-station towns

Areas where mobile data and broadband are seasonal or inconsistent.

Properties with frequent power cuts

Hotels that cannot guarantee uptime for a router or ISP connection.

Multi-building properties

Campuses where Wi-Fi does not reach every front desk or annex reliably.

Anyone burned by a cloud-only PMS outage

Teams that have already lost a booking or a check-in to a dead connection.

The honest picture

What it's good at, and where it has limits

Where ViharaOS helps most

  • Front desk keeps working through outages — no blocked check-ins or lost bookings.
  • Fast local reads/writes; no waiting on network round-trips for routine actions.
  • Automatic sync in the background once connectivity returns.
  • Runs on modest hardware already at the front desk.

Where it has limits

  • A device that is offline for an extended period will only reflect changes made on that device until it reconnects — other properties/devices will not see those updates in real time.
  • Genuine double-booking conflicts across offline devices are flagged for manual resolution, not automatically guessed at.
  • The desktop client currently supports Windows and macOS only.
  • Some cloud-dependent features (e.g. live channel-manager sync) require an active connection to take effect, by definition.

They are saved locally immediately and queued for sync. As soon as the app detects a connection, it syncs those bookings to the cloud backend automatically — no manual export or re-entry needed.
